This paper proposes that salt anomalies formed because of two processes, early compaction of carbonate shoals of the Winnipegosis Formation and tectonics that resulted in multiple stages of block movement during the deposition of the upper Prairie Evaporite. An explanation of the underlying controls on the formation of these salt anomalies has been somewhat elusive although the overwhelming assumption remains that these features developed in lows on a salina. #Timeslice seismic consultants seriesAlthough the geology of the Esterhazy Member ore body is largely considered a regional flat lying continuous series of thin potash hosting beds, there are numerous occurrences where the ore has been either replaced or removed leaving behind uneconomical halite-rich sections. The Esterhazy Member of the western Canada Prairie Evaporite has been mined underground for sylvite (KCl) since the early 1960s. D) Time slice through AB and OR, showing curvilinear geometry to OR. We propose that mud extrusions that coalesce on a surface forming a multi-conduit-fed edifice be referred to as mud canopies, by analogy with salt canopies, with implications for basin reconstruction, paleo–overpressure release events, and fluid migration. We argue that this large mud body represents a new morphological type and scale of mud extrusion. These large extrusive flows coalesced to form a single edifice with an exceptional volume of ∼292 km3 that is connected to eight widely spaced conduits. The allochthonous material was sourced from beneath the ∼1-km-thick Messinian evaporites in the Eastern Mediterranean and extruded synchronously as eight large mud volcanoes directly on top of the Messinian evaporites in a catastrophic remobilization event at the end of the Messinian salinity crisis. Three-dimensional seismic imaging and well calibration reveal a large allochthonous mud edifice that is composed of several mud extrusions and covers an area >740 km2 on the outer shelf slope of the Nile Delta. A seer in Lord British's castle provides the player with feedback on their progress in the virtues. Through meditation and correctly repeating the virtue's Mantra one to three times at the shrine, the player gains insight and ultimately enlightenment in the virtue. Shrines to each of the virtues are scattered about Britannia, each requiring the player to possess the corresponding virtue's Rune before allowing entry. Enlightenment in the virtues is achieved through the player's actions as well as through meditation at shrines. This was also the first Ultima game where you had to play as a human, eliminating other races such as the elves, dwarves, and "bobbits" found in previous games altogether (however, even in the first three Ultimas where they could be chosen as player characters, there were never any non-player characters of those non-human races).Īlthough each profession embodies a particular virtue, to become an Avatar the player must achieve enlightenment in all eight virtues. For example, choosing Compassion makes you a Bard, Honor a Paladin, Sacrifice a Tinker, and so on. These situations do not have one correct resolution rather, players must rank the eight virtues and whichever stands as their highest priority determines the type of character they will play. Instead of simply choosing stats to assign points to as in the first three Ultima games, you are instead asked various ethical dilemmas by a Gypsy using remotely tarot-like cards of the eight virtues.

Fault tolerance: decentralized systems are less likely to fail accidentally because they rely on networks of separate components.“Blockchains are politically decentralized (no one controls them) and architecturally decentralized (no infrastructural central point of failure) but they are logically centralized (there is one commonly agreed state and the system behaves like a single computer).” - Vitalik Buterin Since “decentralization” is such a relevant buzzword in the crypto community, it’s important to define it well. It require you to compromise the entire network of cryptocurrency users. Therefore, transaction records are made public and unchangeable (immutable).Īlthough it isn’t impossible to change the transaction ledger, cryptographic security makes it extremely difficult. I f there are fraudulent transactions, the bank also needs to be trusted to change them and fix the situation.Īs we have already seen that the elements of centralization and trust are removed from cryptocurrency, there is no longer a third party for us to trust to do these things. We trust our banks not to fabricate transactions or manipulate our money as we trust them to deliver our transactions to recipients. When we want to check how money has been spent from our bank accounts, we check our transaction history with the bank. All transactions are recorded on the blockchain. It should be impossible for anyone but the owner of a private key to move funds. It should be highly improbable or difficult to rewrite history.Immutability in regards to blockchain and cryptocurrency should follow 3 principles: “Immutable”, in its simplest sense, means “cannot be undone.” Aside from the other major benefits of cryptocurrencies and blockchain tech, solving the centralized trust issue alone is a big enough innovation to give crypto staying power. He ought to find it more profitable to play by the rules, such rules that favor him with more new coins than everyone else combined, than to undermine the system and the validity of his own wealth.Īlthough we are still figuring out exactly how we use cryptocurrencies and and what for, they are here to stay. If a greedy attacker is able to assemble more CPU proof-of-worker than all the honest nodes, he would have to choose between using it to defraud people by stealing back his payments, or using it to generate new coins. The incentive may help encourage nodes to stay honest. The incentivization of individual network actors though the proof-of-work (PoW) consensus algorithm is one of the most groundbreaking ideas in modern economics. The decentralized ledger is known as the blockchain. If the signatures are not valid, they discard the transaction.Įveryone on the network has a copy of the ledger so we no longer need to trust a single entity/organization/third-party because there is no need to trust when you can just verify against this ledger because you have a copy of it. If you broadcast a bitcoin transaction, all nodes receive it and verify that the signatures are valid. With bitcoin, each part of the ecosystem validates what the other parts are telling it without needing to trust anybody. In all cases, that central authority becomes the central weakness that leads to the demise of the currency. These 3 characteristics we will discuss are the answers to the questions you might often hear from skeptics such as: “what makes cryptocurrencies so special?” and “How are cryptocurrencies any different than fiat currencies?” 1) Trustlessīitcoin is trustless because it was designed in a way that nobody has to trust anybody else in order for the network to function.Įvery form of currency before bitcoin required a central authority that you had to trust in order to use it. However, bitcoin and altcoins share very similar blockchain technology and the 3 key characteristics also apply across the board (in most cases). As you can see from the trend, there have been some tremendous altcoin rallies that have chopped Bitcoin’s dominance down over time, bringing in a number of other strong projects to the market. He sold his theaters for about $6 million, the Adams wound up in the 1930s under the Chicago-based chain H&E Balaban Corp., controlled by Barney Balaban, a future president of Paramount Pictures. In 1931, Kunsky lost everything when his disinvestment in the theaters was forced. SILVER SCREEN MADISON MOVIEThe movie features California bow hunter Art Young, who captivated a young bear and led him to start carving his own bows and arrow shafts in the basement of his home on Tireman Avenue in Detroit. Hunting legend Fred Bear, who spread the popularity of archery and bow hunting, said his visit to the Adams in 1927 to watch a silent movie called "Alaskan Adventures" planted the seed for his career. Among the most successful Vitaphone films was 1927's "The Jazz Singer." Unlike modern movies, the soundtrack was not on the film itself, but supplied by a 16-inch phonograph record. Vitaphone was used on almost 2,000 films from 1926 to 1930 that were produced by Warner Bros. In 1927, the Adams entered the era of the talkies, installing the Vitaphone sound film process. The Adams also was designed in a far more simple, classical decoration than the movie palaces that would come a decade later. The 1,700-seat Adams - when compared with the behemoths like the 5,041-seat Fox and 4,038-seat Michigan - was rather small, but the switch in 1918 from vaudeville to silent films proved to be a successful one. Between 19, Grand Circus Park saw the addition of 24,000 seats with the openings of the Adams, Capitol, Fox, Madison, Michigan, Oriental, State and United Artists theaters. Starting in the mid-1910s and picking up in the early 1920s, Detroit's entertainment mecca moved north from Monroe Street - where the Columbia, National and Gayety theaters and Old Detroit Opera House were - to Grand Circus Park. Kunsky had so many theaters on Grand Circus Park, in fact, that the area was dubbed "Kunsky Circle" at one point in the 1920s. While the name Kunsky might not be familiar to current Detroiters, he is responsible for the Birmingham, Fisher, Madison, Michigan, Oriental, Redford, Royal Oak (Music) and State theaters, as well as the Capitol Theatre, now known as the Detroit Opera House. Among Crane's creations: The Fox, Majestic, State (Fillmore Detroit) and United Artists theaters, the Lafayette Building and Olympia Stadium. Crane did nearly 60 movie theaters around Detroit and other landmarks. 2, 1911, was the first of architect Crane's many stunning movie palaces. The Columbia, which opened at 50 Monroe St., on Oct. He also was responsible for many of Detroit's most successful theaters, as well as the city's first major movie palace, the 1,000-seat Columbia. Such a clever business move was nothing uncommon for Kunsky, a Detroiter who made himself a fortune in the vaudeville, movie theater and nickelodeon business - and was the man who first brought movies to Detroit on a regular basis, at his Casino Theatre. It was one of only three known alley-jumpers in the city. Grand Circus Park was a desirable and high-priced piece of real estate at the time, so by having a narrow, small entrance on the park and the large theater on a side street, Kunksy got the prestigious address without the high cost. Balcony patrons would then go up some stairs and cross an enclosed sky bridge over an alley into the auditorium, while main floor guests would go down steps and through a tunnel underneath the alley. Patrons would enter the lobby through the Fine Arts and buy their tickets and concessions. The theater itself was on Elizabeth, across from the State Theatre (now known as the Fillmore Detroit). The Fine Arts, built in 1905 and designed by Louis Kamper, was well-established by the time the Adams opened 12 years later. The Adams was a so-called alley-jumper, with its entrance in the Fine Arts Building on Grand Circus Park. One of the things that made the Adams so different was how its lobby was separated from the theater's auditorium. 1, 1917, with a stage performance called "Romance." Within a year, however, the Adams was converted into a movie theater and would spend almost its entire life as a major movie house. Howard Crane as a playhouse for John Kunsky's chain of entertainment venues. The Adams Theatre was a 1,770-seat theater designed by famed architect C. Nestled among the hotels and office buildings dominating the west side of Grand Circus Park was an unusual theater designed by a master, built by a Detroit movie tycoon and torn down by a pizza maker. “We’re very pleased to reveal that we’re also working on a remaster of the 1998 Battlezone for PC,” the studio stated in a recent blog post.
